The group is asked how they want instructions given

You have decided that you need to find out how the members of the group think that they would like to be instructed in the program. This will give you some idea on how to make sure you are instructing each of the clients in the ways that best suits their learning styles.

You ask the group as a whole how they want you to present them with instructions.

The group responds:

"We have discussed what you asked and we are not sure we know how to answer you. We all have different ideas about how we like to learn. We aren't even sure of what different ways you have to provide us with instructions in the program. The thing we all agree on is that we probably take in instructions in different ways."

Points to consider

Simply asking how people like to be instructed can be a bit daunting. Most people do not understand the processes involved in learning or that they even have a preferred learning style. You need to consider the best way of determining each person's preferred learning style.

You will need to have a look at the learning resources that describe the different types of learning styles. These include the Gardiner's Multiple Intelligences and the VARK Modes of learning. Make sure you understand the things to look for when assessing each person's learning style.

It looks like the members of the group are unable to tell you the ways they like to be instructed. You will need to determine a different way of deciding how to instruct the group. What will you do next?
